Conservative broadcaster Sinclair is putting Jimmy Kimmel Live! back on the air. In a statement today, Sinclair said it will end its preemption of the show on its ABC affiliates starting tonight, even though ABC and owner Disney haven’t accepted its request for an ombudsman and other changes.

We need to bring back anti monopoly laws and bring back local stations owned by local communities. If you want to have a national show you should be selling it to 200 local stations not 3 big conglomorates.

The same should be done with big tech like amazon web services, oracle, etc. Every data center should be a separate business.

These big companies have shown they are liabilities to society, fail to compete in markets and offer few benefits.

It doesn’t make a ton of sense considering that many businesses will host their systems in multiple centers for geographic redundancy.

I think a max of 2 centers would be fine, though.

Incredible that folks were able to muster this much outage over Jimmy Kimmel.

A shame they can’t manage it for Gaza.

Gaza? The thing that has been happening for decades? The thing the world doesn’t care about?

Or Gaza©, the brand new thing that is super important and which needs to be solved by the next Democrat or else we might as well not vote?

I’ve been alive for awhile so I know there’s at least two “Israel - Palestine” concepts people talk about.

People can’t even give a shit while their own country is going down the drain and you expect them to care about war in a far off land they have no direct connection to

People can’t even give a shit while their own country is going down the drain

Plenty of people give a shit. They just can’t agree on why we’re floundering.

Hell, look at the tens of thousands of people lining up to join ICE. These people clearly give a shit enough to join the modern Americanized SS. Then you’ve got evangelical churches packed with bloodthirsty Christians, looking for reprisal over the Kirk shooting. And Tech CEOs trying to… idfk, digitally create God?

People are clearly caring. It’s just that the ones in charge are batshit insane.

Hey, Democrats split their vote over Gaza in the last election, we sure as hell can muster enough outrage to get Trump elected.

Democrats split their vote over Gaza in the last election

Did they? The anti-Biden Gaza protest votes in the primary were minuscule relative to the overall turnout in the General. And there were a number of states that split between Trump and a Democrat for Governor or Senate, in large part because Trump - personally - outpolled the field while Kamala under-performed the rest of her party.

Even then, Kamala got 10M more votes than Hillary did eight years earlier. 6M more than the Obama landslide of 2008.

There’s a lot of folks who want to die on the “Democrat Low Turnout” hill. But 2024 had an unusually high turnout, compared to the historical average. The problem Dems faced was Trump being too popular.

Thanks to the outrage over Jimmy Kimmel, John Oliver yesterday was able to broadcast a 40 minutes rant against Netanyahu and its genocidal actions calling him “this fucking guy”. Unbelievable on American TV

        I guess.

But Oliver’s been doing the “Foreign Man Bad” skit for his whole career. And as Israel’s sin eater, I don’t think Netanyahu or his proxies even care. “Liberals don’t like me, so I must be doing a good job” is half his pitch to the Likkudnik base

South Park also did a Netanyahu Bad episode. Seems like most people slept through it.

Let me know when any of these guys start talking about Regime Change.

Apples and Oranges; all people had to do was cancel subscriptions (plus Jimmy was well liked in the industry). Clear target, low risk, no effort. Hell, if it was just Sinclair, people would have no idea which channels were theirs and have a harder time boycotting.

Gaza is a lot less clear… I mean, anywhere from direct action and volunteering, to… not voting in 2024? That message is only now breaking through to (some) governments. And Palestine doesn’t really have powerful allies and have been tormented for decades, so it’s good that at least some people now want to do something just for the injustice of it all. Hell, now we even have the added risk of getting fired! (Edit: or fucking arrested if you’re in UK, oof).

I’ll always be a major proponent of voting. I make it a priority to try and work the polls when I can.

But damn, does voting with your wallet work every time. From civil rights to free speech, it just works.

So you know, the next obvious step is to really kick them in the balls and outright replace their businesses on the free market. Bit harder a step but the real ultimate irony would be a resurgence of local communities stepping up utilitization of rebroadcast stations to better inform their populations and improve overall broadcast standards by ensuring proper “free market discourse” as they so often put it.

They will get what they are after once their conglomerate merger goes through. The BS censors they claim they want was just a press release.

You’re thinking of Nexstar, which has faced conservative opposition to its acquisition of rival media group Tenga. They hope that their actions against Kimmel might gain them favor from the administration, which has to approve the merger.

Sinclair is just into spreading conservatism for the sheer joy of it. They are infamous for their “must reads,” which require trusted local broadcasters to read word-for-word scripts of conservative talking points during the local news.
