Oh good God, this administration is absolutely stupid.

This headline is a great example of how the NYTrash supports fascism.

Instead of arguing about whether people are “foreign gang members”, the far more important point is that nobody should be sent to a concentration camp (“foreign” or domestic). Libs enable this by promoting the same bullshit premises as their fascist allies.

As a reasonable human, I could not give a single shit about whether these concentration camp victims are “foreign gang members”. Disgusting propaganda.

no defense of nyt, but there was milquetoast acknowledgment of due process and the desire of some to do away with it. it was couched as “who are we, really?”

certainly weak, but the background stories presented at least somewhat humanized the victims here and offered local, expert information showing how pathetically flawed “gang membership” determination is.

        A) The title as a standalone piece is part of the NYT’s messaging. That’s why fact check sites make clear that a false title is false in their headline.

        B) Accepting the premise that if they were part of a gang this would be justified or even just acceptable is validating fascism. “Not all of the detainees are gang members” is a message that the core issue is a flawed implementation, not that the fundamental act of disappearing people into a foreign concentration camp without trial or sentence is a dangerous and urgent affront to a civilized society.

“Sending people not of the targeted groups to Auschwitz calls into question the current iteration of the program. The gestapo should do better.”

First off just as a suggestion never call yourself “a reasonable human” as that’s just asking for trouble.

Second as a liberal my issue is the lack of criminal trials for these people. Even before we consider the quality of the place where they are interred we should be asking why they were detained or moved at all.

You seem to be much more focused on the concentration camp part which is why I made my initial point.

The big WTF is that they’re using a point system for determining if they’re in a gang. Not actually investigation, just visual ‘proof’.

If you get eight points your ‘proven’ to be a gang member with four points if you have ‘gang tattoo’ and four points of you dress with ‘known gang attire’, like high end urban street wear.

No actual investigation, just if you look like a movie version of a gang member, you are considered an official gang member and sent to prison with no trial.

A zero percent error rate would still be unacceptable. They’ve been sent to a gulag without a trial and have no sentence to serve. The offense doesn’t matter, the guilt doesn’t matter, that’s not how you handle either crime or deportation.

RICO charges are famously one of the hardest things to prove in existence. Perhaps if they want to fast track gang-related crimes in the courts they could reduce the barriers… I’m sure that wouldn’t come back to bite them specifically.
