Attached: 2 images What #book do you carry with you today? Mine is the "Oeuvres de Malherbe", a French edition of Malherbe's complete poetry published by "La Renaissance du Livre", Paris, in 1946. It is about the size of a pocket book, 230 pages long. Very easy to carry around. It's in excellent condition & flipping through its 80 years old pages, one almost feels like if, back then, people wanted the stuff they made to last. But that would be stupid. Better sell people stuff, books included, that will break apart after a few years and will have to be replaced with a new one, right? Malherbe’s poetry is not reputed to be the most lyrical nor the most crazy one but I’ve been wanting to give it a shot for a long time and recently happened to find this neat little edition in a thrift shop, next to piles of much more recent books whose main selling point must have been their shiny cover. The poem in the 2nd photo, dated 1600, is titled 'Intention to leave a lady/Who satisfied him only with promises' in which he is telling a lady that, no matter how beautiful she is if she keeps on promising him more only to repeatedly find excuses to not deliver, he will leave her for good. I have no idea how it ended up between those two but it seems to me not much has changed during that time. Save maybe that today he would post it on TikTok?

I just revived my (never that active, to begin with) Mastodon account because I felt like posting a quick note and a picture of the (17th century French poetry) book I’m carrying with me today. While I was writing it, I realized I could easily post stuff like that very regularly, if not every single day, but also it was not something I wanted to use my blog for, nor share over here on Lemmy.
