US President Donald Trump signed the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) into law Thursday, completing the passage of the largest military spending bill in US history—$901 billion, or over $1 trillion when combined with supplemental funding passed earlier this year.
The Senate voted 77-20 on Wednesday to pass the bill. The Democratic leadership, including Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York and Minority Whip Dick Durbin of Illinois, voted for the bill. They were joined by Senators Mark Kelly of Arizona and Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, both of whom released a video last month calling on military personnel to disobey illegal orders—as Trump was sending the US military on a murder spree off the coast of Latin America.
Citing Trump’s statements about using troops to shoot protesters in America, Slotkin invoked the legacy of the Nuremberg tribunals, which convicted Nazi leaders for war crimes and crimes against peace. But when it came time to vote, this invocation was revealed to be completely meaningless. Slotkin voted to hand Trump the resources to pursue his military adventure against Venezuela…

I am yet to encounter a link to Chinese state media in lemmy.world.
e: wasnt lemmy.world, tho, lol.
I posted an archived one the other day when Mister Hotznplotzn here tried argueing in favor of the evilness of China, by posting some random stuff (Transnational Repression Reporting Guide) from a (likely agency linked) propaganda NGO “The Safeguard Defenders” (since 2016) run by a fool that got caught in China and was deported for his actions in 20216 under their previous, then active NGO “China Urgent Action Working Group” (went inactive in 2015, their Twitter account still got some interesting google drive stuff).
From the short Xinghua News Agency report (machine translated):
Hotzplotzn is a western propagandist, probably paid. Same as randomname, sepia and similar accounts. All they do is literally post China bad / Russia bad articles and merely comment to counter some commentary to the same effect, but never actually engage in discussion. They should be permabanned for repeately engaging in propaganda and disinformation, IMO. What do the mods think, I wonder, why do they keep them spamming their community with this narrative of questionable quality, @jordanlund?
