You might have misunderstood what I was getting at 😅. I wasn’t thinking about servers or admins, but about the person/people behind the project. That’s whose views I can’t overlook.

I’m aware. As far as I know, Dessalines does not share those views at all, nor do the other contributors to Lemmy. Rimu is the lead developer of PieFed, and the largest PieFed instances are generally ones that align more closely with Lemmy.world style views, ie anti-communism and liberal Zionism.

I sure hope so! The problem is, even though anti-bigotry is a part of Lemmy’s code of conduct, and the first rule of Lemmy.ml, he never addressed the noisiest of the issues with Nutomic, i.e., his transphobia…

To be fair, since the grand Reddit exodus, it’s the same on Lemmy if you exclude the troika (like damn, people, stop with the “triad” shit! “Troika” is just the superior term).

I don’t disagree with your concern, but given that options are essentially PieFed, Reddit, or Lemmy (with a tiny bit on mbin), Lemmy is the best of the bunch. The devs are communists, which contributes to why Lemmy overall is a lot more left. I’m also more willing to bet Nutomic comes to better social views over time, as has historically been common for communists (including Castro), than I am for Rimu.

As for the “troika,” I’m aware that Lemmy.world is the biggest instance and that several others that are active are aligned, but on PieFed it’s far more skewed at the moment.

options are essentially PieFed, Reddit, or Lemmy

Reddit is actually a whole different system. Yes, it’s alternative for the whole of fediverse, as it is completely unfederated. It’s basically just one instance. Being a PieFed/Lemmy/Mbin alternative, it of course shares a lot of features with them (much more with PieFed, but a very reasonable amount with Lemmy as well!)

With PieFed and Lemmy and Mbin you have access to all the same posts and all the same communities, so they are alternatives to each other, and it mostly doesn’t matter a shit which one you go for. But Reddit is a different thing altogether.

You can check what Reddit ise over here: http://reddit.com/ . Try searching for any Forumverse posts there and you will see it’s not part of the Fediverse. You will not find any of our content there, unless someone who has created a user account also on Reddit has copypasted something to Reddit!

I hope this information was of use for you! 👍

I’m aware that Reddit is entirely different as a platform, I’m speaking about the Reddit format itself that Lemmy and PieFed descend from. Reddit is unacceptable to me for many of the reasons you stated.

                Okay.

Just wanted to point out that PieFed and Lemmy are the same thing. There’s a reason to fight between Reddit and Forumverse, but whatever makes Lemmy grow is good for PieFed and vice versa. So, the meaning of the word “alternative” is very different when comparing Reddit with Forumverse, and when comparing various Forumverse softwares to each other.

Reddit is kind of “against” us, while PieFed and Lemmy play in the same team.

PieFed isn’t the same thing as Lemmy. It’s federated, but has severe problems with the code, and a racist, anti-communist developer that puts that bias into PieFed itself. PieFed and Lemmy handle many things differently.

What things do they handle differently? I mean, PieFed has an equivalent of Multireddits and Lemmy does not, but Lemmy is about to have them if 1.0 comes out some year. That’s already been declared.

The same with flairs. Yeah, PieFed has them, Lemmy doesn’t, but Lemmy will have them if 1.0 comes out.

I wouldn’t say it’s “handling things differently” that one has implemented features that the other one is still in the process of implementing, but has already decided it definitely will implement them, at some point.

PieFed is essentially just future Lemmy.
