The thing is if it was true that prosecuting individuals would cause issues (it isn’t true at all) then it pretty much proves that the system is fundamentally broken and needs to change asap.

I struggle to think of an appropriate “punishment” for such people, because I don’t have the wisdom and vision to see how they can be rehabilitated and reintegrated into society. How can they be? So reluctantly I find myself thinking of capital punishment - how else to make safe a democracy from its most powerful avowed enemies?

I don’t hate it, as long as they’re also financially de-clawed and all their contacts and businesses taken away. No punishment can ever make power over others safe in their hands.
