My favorite was the one they were training to detect cancer in imaging scans but they forgot to edit out the info stamp in the corner so it just started flagging all the scans from the cancer center!

I need to start up a good one for nurses / healthcare workers again on this server (sh has the right vibe for it too) but getting enough people on board for that is always tough. It’s good to have a vent space though because in the nicest way possible 90% of you do not understand hospital ettiquette at ALL (which like, fair, but DAMN).

well sort of. there are some things it would really help to detect faster. but I’m also really good at specific cleaning tasks that other people struggle with.

My mother blamed calling it a “spontaneous abortion” for the “confusion” that led my neighbors health insurance company to deny coverage for her miscarriage. Now that I’m older I’m just like no the insurance company just didn’t want to pay and found a reason that would hopefully traumatize a woman out of fighting them on it and were backed by a wider society that just hates women in general. Like I’ve heard people say it’s more humane to call it a spontaneous abortion because “miscarriage” implies the woman did something wrong and idt the wording is actually going to manage to make the experience that much less awful but regardless I also don’t think the wording was actually the issue in that situation. And the word abortion wouldn’t be that stigmatized either if we didn’t consider pregnancy as a punishment for sex that must be meted out no matter the circumstances of the sex itself or the physical, emotional, or social safety of the resulting pregnancy.

This is especially wild when you consider that some of the sports / feats women are often if not usually better at include shooting, distance / endurance events, and withstanding high g-forces without losing consciousness, which are way more useful in a modern military than the high jump or javelin throwing.

As a nurse who graduated in the middle of COVID (and was working in hospitals leading up to it), A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking by T. Kingfisher was surprisingly healing read.

eh if I took up travel nursing I’d probably still want something similar to a house or apartment to rent for 3-6 months because most hotels aren’t really designed to be lived in that long but I also don’t want to buy a wholeass house then worry about selling it in 6 months. but that’s splitting hairs, at what point do you just call that an extended stay hotel? but also at what point does an extended stay hotel become a rental property?

but every time I hear a “property owner” complain about how hard and expensive it is to own other people’s homes I’m just like my guy no one is making you do that if it’s so damn hard just sell it to the person who lives there except deep down you realize how good of a deal you’re getting you’re just mad everybody isn’t acting like you’re not a prick for it.
