That’s a dramatic overreaction to what I said. They haven’t dismissed anything, because I got these glasses today. They said I could expect it. Weeks ago during the appointment.

Ah, no, I never wore them because I “didn’t need them” and it was inconvenient. I’m very bad with forming new routines to do things I should do, and keeping routines that exist, so if I don’t need them, I won’t use them.
Now I’m realizing I need them and probably have for a while, but the light prescriptions I had in the past were to see if eye issues were contributing to my headaches.
They don’t cause them. That’s a whole other issue that’s being handled as best it can be. My prescription was always really mild. Still is, but it’s enough that I feel a need for it in daily life. Because I wanna play video games without eye strain.
My eye doc is through the VA and I’ve seen many over the years, and they have all said the same thing; you don’t really need them yet but we’ll give you a pair to try to see if it helps. They have checked for all the things because I see halos and stuff. But apparently nothing significant. Dry eye can apparently cause similar stuff and I’ve got some really unpleasant gel drops for that now :)
Yeah this is basically what my optometrist said, that I can expect some adjustment… but doctors always downplay stuff and like… I’d like to get a better idea :)
I took my glasses off earlier and just looked at them at a distance and I think only one of them has a substantial prescription, which miiiight explain why I feel ill…
Ah, I tried contacts back in the day. My eyes are too dry for them. I got new gel eye drops prescribed when I went (it’s the VA, I have to accept treatment I would rather avoid to get treatment I want ;) I wanted eye drops that help and got glasses too! At least they are kinda cute. The lady (who also had plastic frames) said I looked like a diva. She was lying to make me feel good about my choice because she could tell I wanted someone to push me away from the black wire frames I’ve always gone with. But I like them :) they fit better than the ones with the weird nose bridge thing so I’m more likely to stick with them. And the pink of the frame goes well with the pink tint of the lense.
I enjoyed dealing with the discomfort for the backlight contacts for my starfire costume in my early 20s, but that lasted a whole like 2 hrs before I had to remove them. I can’t handle it. They hurt. I can’t deal with being uncomfortable. (I did also try regular contacts for a while but same thing plus I’m not responsible enough to remove them ever)
I appreciate the advice tho! Thanks for the reply!
If you are fully literate, you can look into teaching English as a second language.
You don’t need to speak the language of the place you work, they even sometimes prefer you don’t because they teach through immersion after a certain level.
They handle visas and housing and stuff most of the time, too, and it’s not just Asian countries, like most people think. Like you could go teach in Greece if you want.
I’m looking into this, myself. I may just do it but I have to give up my solo homestead dreams so it’sa last resort.
My favorite conversation starter works great in college but also everywhere else! But you have to actually be interested in the answer, whatever it may be.
“So, what have you learned or learned about recently, say in the last 6 months, that you found particularly interesting, and what about it is interesting to you?”
They usually ask for some sort of clarification because nobody starts conversations this way, and I frequently have to emphasize that I want to know what they found interesting, not what they think I will find interesting… But if they have anything to talk about, you’ll hear it, very quickly. Saves a ton of time with small talk (I’m low-masking autistic; small talk is pain)
One of my favorites was some random old guy at a bar who designed the machines for making trash bags. He told me about some new design quirk he’d come across that was going to improve the machines, and he was very pleased to tell me all about how it worked and could be implemented.
It also weeds out boring people who legit have nothing other than themselves to talk about, like the people who try to explain sports or something… if that’s really what they are into, cool, but they never choose interesting deep info, just basic superficial stuff. Those conversations never go anywhere, but at least I didn’t waste much time!
This also works with friends you’ve had for ages! It’s a great “I have nothing to talk about but I’m bored and want to talk to you” sort of thing.
Oh no this is a modpack with “War Crimes Expanded”, “War Crimes Expanded 2”, and “Geneva Checklist” for rimworld, isn’t it?
Yottabyte is past tense for yeet-a-byte because you for sure should have cleaned up your storage before then.
Pretty sure that’s true. But I didn’t know yottabyte was a thing (fr) so I could be wrong I guess.
I don’t even begin to understand your fun fact, which made it more fun for me. 😊
I’m familiar with TB (tuberculoses and terabytes) but what is YB? Yeet-a-byte, since they want you to purge shit? I thought the next step up was petabyte?
The good news is with all the small plastic bits floating around the environment, it’s only a matter of time until something evolves to decompose it. Tons and tons of surface area in a wide variety of environments and exposed to a wide variety of microorganisms. I mean heck even our anaerobic gut microbes are getting a chance! And plastic is basically just energy in solid form, so it’ll happen sooner or later.
The bad news is if that happens while we still use plastics, we are going to have a bad time with it.
We probably won’t even know it’s happening until it’s spread far and wide.
Personally, as a child-free person, if someone I was interested in wanted bio kids, I’d immediately stop being interested because that’s not something you can compromise on. It’s a fundamental incompatibility, imho.
It sounds like you aren’t really hurting for options, so, you know… probably not worth the effort.
I really hope what they mean is clean water.
It can happen; there’s a paper mill by me that was actually an important part of the river cleanup process when the river was far worse than it is today. It takes water from the river, uses it for their needs, then treats it and returns it to the river far far cleaner than they took it out, which has been a net benefit for the entire downstream river ecosystem. That plan, and their follow-through, is the only reason that mill exists at all.
Thing is, where are they going to find this not-particularly-clean water to treat and return? Are they going to need all new infrastructure built to accommodate this?
And why is that cheaper/easier/whatever than just making a closed loop cooling system, which they could have done from the being…
I read something yesterday that says no, it’s the usual FPTP. Only the primary was RCV.
Good call.
Hallucinations are fun, if they are purely visual and you know they are coming…
I have olfactory hallucinations as well as occasional auditory (related to migraines and headaches, not drug use) and those are just very mundane. Lol
I used to be like that, unable to dream/remember dreams. Turns out that was because I had nightmares and terrors and stress dreams and my brain simply didn’t want to remember them.
I took a shaman drug (that I won’t mention, because I absolutely do not recommend it for anyone ever, and regret taking it myself) over the course of many months, and it absolutely gave me the permanent ability to dream and recall, and even consistently lucid dream (I don’t recall dreams every day, but at least once a week now). I now have a whole town that acts as a hub to get to all the places I’ve dreamed about more than once. It’s kinda fun.
However, these dreams are massively emotionally taxing. I often encounter my mother (the point of the shaman drug is to interact with dead ancestors), so I’ve relegated her to a middle floor of “my house” so she’s easier to avoid… those experiences are… just so overwhelmingly taxing. They do help with some closure stuff even tho I know it’s just my brain making up both sides of things, but it’s draining all the same.
I haven’t worn a bra in decades other than occasional for a nice outfit sort of stuff.
I don’t consider it self-care, I just don’t have boobs worth bra-ing up. Why waste the money for something that does nothing?
Self care is doing whatever makes you comfortable, not what other people say should make you more comfortable.
Lots of people, especially fem-presenting people, would be wildly uncomfortable with their nipples being visible through a tighter shirt, and you know what? That’s super understandable. People give me looks and comments not infrequently. It’s uncomfortable. That’s reasonable. I’ve stopped caring what small-minded people think so I’m over it, but it takes years to get comfortable with that, and that’s the opposite of self-care if it’s not something you already want to do.
Holy shit cuomo sued for the gyno records of his accusers??? I really hope he lost that but I don’t want to look and be disappointed…
Eh, we don’t need him contaminating all the research, plus all that hot air would speed up melting.
No, let’s throw him in a little dingy with a half-collapsed roof (inflatable life raft for ships sort of thing) and set him adrift at the point furthest from any land.
If he makes it to shore alive and without help, we let him live the rest of his life in peace. But broke, cuz his whole family needs to be stripped of any monetary gains of office.
We keep drones circling to record everything, and broadcast it globally as pay per view, and use the funds to track down and return all the people he deported.
Thanks but no, really, I won’t remember to take them out if they are comfortable. And I hear that’s pretty bad for you.
Even when they weren’t that comfortable I couldn’t remember to take them out.
And I cry plenty thanks! I have a whole movie playlist for days I feel like catharsis. It’s mostly Disney and Pixar because the people working there now grew up with the traumas I did. Woof do they know how to hit the heartstrings. #Healthy or something
Just not in the ways my eyes apparently want… so like gushing intermittently and dry the rest of the time. Stoicism is hard man and we all have breaks don’t judge me. ;)
