Oh man we certainly do struggle. It’s like all the tools they make for actually doing theoretical psycho-ornithology are right handed! You know what I mean?

Finding bacterial would be super cool, we could learn a whole lot from that! But if we do find complex alien life, multicellular life or something like animals, well that’s a really, incredibly bad sign.
That suggests that complex life is common in the universe. And if complex life is common, intelligent life should be common. And if intelligent life should be common, but isn’t (because where are they all?), that says bad things about the success and survival rates of intelligent species.
Well a rocket only system is right out.
But… There’s certainly still potential for a hybrid system. You can get real high up with balloons, once above the thickest atmosphere rockets work a lot better.
Also, depending on the atmosphere, aircraft could be very effective, you might be able to accelerate to great speeds on jet engines, and then have a second stage based on chemical rockets.
But for the most part, yeah, getting to space on a planet that massive would be an absolute pain in the ass. No simple task.
I was in highschool at this point and I totally would have ratted any kid out for that.
No mouse balls would mean no Quake or StarCraft in the lab after school… Unacceptable!
Does someone need a nap? How bout a snack buddy? I bet you’ll feel way better after some goldfish and an apple juice.
If the speed limit is 55, but at the moment there’s lots of traffic going about 80, it is legitimately more dangerous to stay under 55. To be clear, the law is unambiguously here, it’s black and white. So ultimately it’s your choice. You have to decide at what point is safety a higher concern than legality?
I would say… at some point.
Bad faith arguments indeed… I’ve been nothing but reasonable, which anyone reading this can clearly see. So when I politely pointed out that your arguments are weak, you changed tactics, trying to discredit me instead. At this point that effort only provides additional supporting evidence that you are in fact just a troll.
So how does one example demonstrate that Jews, as a group all hold that belief?
It seems to me more like you’re just trying to spread divisive sentiments, like a troll.
I mean, different people have different traditions for sure, and I have no intention of invalidating your beliefs and upbringing in any way. And there are of course also different denominations of Judaism, Orthodox and Conservative Jews for example are much more focused on God for certain. But in the US, Reform Jews are the most common and for most Reform Jews tradition and community tend to be the most important tenents, faith in God coming in somewhere behind those.
It’s so demonstrably false.
That strikes me as extraordinarily difficult to demonstrate…
I buy the smallest phone I can find… But they keep getting bigger, there just aren’t smaller options available.
I love the idea of a flip phone, if only for the promise of increased durability, a more protected screen. But so far I think these foldable phones have been generally less durable than more traditional phones. So yeah, I’ll wait until the tech matures.
I mean, if nobody was using them…
You think that 727 you flew in last was built in the 90s? Heh, you don’t want to know how old they are. I’ll just say this, those passenger jets cost millions of dollars and airlines don’t like to throw things out. Ever.
A private twin engine plane could literally be built any time in the last 50 years, could be brand new too. That doesn’t mean it isn’t airworthy though, being old wouldn’t make it unreliable.
The Jewish community has been speaking up. The problem is that the global Jewish community doesn’t actually control the Israeli government, so there’s only so much that speaking up can do. Also, the population of Israel tend to see things quite differently from American Jews. It’s very unfortunate that Jews in Israel do seem to have forgotten the Holocaust…
That is not typically how Judaism works though. At least for the Jews around me, Judaism is a culture centered around asking critical questions. God doesn’t even enter the equation for a great many Jews, that’s not the point. The point is using the tradition, the rituals and the community to remember and better understand the past and to use that understanding to prevent the same kind of tragedy in the future.
Anyway, that’s the kind of thing we talked about at my sedar.
Could we please just say that bees are dying? When you say disappearing it makes it sound like a conspiracy, which it isn’t. The CIA has not partnered with bigfoot to kidnap the bees as part of a secret operation in the time war…
It’s not a conspiracy, they’re dying probably because of something we’re putting into the environment. And by “we”, I mean most likely the agriculture industry operating perfectly legally under current law. I specified “legally” to point out that it’s not the fault of farmers, they’re just doing their job, the problem is that we’re not regulating the use of chemicals carefully enough - and that is our fault.
And all that is to say, can we please just call this what it is?
At this moment, you can buy consumer motherboards with 8 ram slots. Filling them with 64gb dimms you can reach half a TB. It’s definitely more affordable than server parts, but it’s still pricey. I guess you’re looking at a $1500 system rather than a $20,000 system.
It’s not a Lemmy thing, it’s an Internet thing.
Truth be told, irony, sarcasm and nuance, are quite hard to do in a text format without being explicit. Hell, that’s the main reason emojis exist, to replace the facial gestures and tone of voice we use to cue each other in on subtle aspects of language like sarcasm.
You know, chalk… markers…
Actually, we use quills a surprising amount of the time!
