  • My PC repair teacher hated Gates. The first story he told us about him was about how he essentially obtained DOS for a literal pittance, turned a massive profit on it, and never credited the original creators.

I might’ve skewed the story over the years of trying to keep it in my memory, but if I did it just goes to show how much I hate Bill Gates.

  • This. I mained Arch for 2 years and still can’t be completely trusted with sudo. Moved to Nobara, would recommend as well. Its a bit more advanced, but you don’t have to touch the command line if you don’t want to and setup is right there step-by-step when you first boot.

I did try Bazzite first. I just couldn’t get used to living the Flatpak life. I know you can force install native packages, but at that point why wouldn’t I just use Nobara, lol.

  • I see a lot of “just accept the gift” here, but that’s a rough choice. If you accept the gift, then you would be expected to use it over the one that you like. Your wife may even go so far as to throw the other one away (depending on what it is). So I don’t think accepting the gift was ever an option.

It really is a hard spot to be put in, and I would have probably done the same thing in your position, even though I hate denying gifts. The whole premise of gifting is flawed, imo, at least where I’m from. To me, the one being gifted is put more on the spot than the one gifting. I hate getting gifts for this reason.

So maybe this. Explain why you like the one you use better, but that you’re very happy with the gift. Ask her if it’s okay if you keep that gift as a backup if your first one breaks and store it by the first one “just in case”. Its never bad to have two of something.

  • If I had to make a guess, I say it probably will. The convenience of AI is probably here to stay, but the craze of replacing everything with AI will go out the door.

AI will become exactly what it should have been in the first place: an assistant. Not your friend, not your doctor, not your therapist, not a replacement for artists/authors/programmers, and not inside every piece of tech post 2025. It has a place. That place is over-embellished right now, not to mention unsustainable.

  • Note taking has it’s place, but I agree. Once you go from note taking into crippling habitual hivemind its lost the main point. The time I spent on making my notes look amazing and growing my thought library rather than working on executing my actual ideas was getting insane.

I’ve seen some of the Obsidian maxi’s graphs in tutorial videos. There are people that have spent literal weeks of their precious time on these massive dot-to-line hoards. It really becomes literal e-hoarding. Like counseling levels of bad habit. Then they hold these humongous, continent-sized graphs up like a trophy. Mine’s bigger than yours. Whip it out and prove it.

Now I only jot ideas I want to remember later if I’m in the middle of something, write down dreams I may forget (or nightmares, as it helps me calm down and analyze them logically), and keep to my diet and shopping lists.

I really don’t need more than that. Any reminders or schedules go in my android FOSS calendar (Etar).

  • Though non-toxic, it seems liquid silicone can block the bood pathways in your body if it gets in your system. Also, industrial grade (and cheaper) silicone can contain toxic additives, which has been causing a stir lately.

However, accidentally ingesting a tiny amount of non-liquid food grade silicone particulates shouldn’t raise any concerns, but I see why op might still be wary about it in a spigot.

To op: Have you considered getting a spigot with silicone o-rings and buying third party natural rubber o-rings to replace them with?

Edit: Ah, just reread that you did for the gaskets. Hm. Lemme see if I can find anything.

Edit 2: I found a site selling natural rubber gasket material. You may have to cut it to size:

    https://www.mcmaster.com/products/gaskets/water-resistant-high-pressure-natural-rubber-gasket-material/

Edit 3: Natural rubber spigot o-rings doesn’t seem to yield many results, but I got some hits for natural rubber faucet o-rings. Maybe try there? Hope you find what you’re looking for.

  • I agree with you on that point. I got overly ambitious and have always wondered about making my own icon pack. When you do release, you should reach out to Delta icons in F-Droid and see if you can get your app requested! Everone gets one app request for free, and the project is completely free and open source.

I’ll post a finished product when it’s done if you want to use it anywhere. You can freely have it and license it under your project if you wish. I’ll try to finish it by tomorrow, and in the meantime if you have any other requests for art that you need, do not hesitate to ask. I think this is an amazing idea, and honestly could see other utilization for it.

For example, a color naming tool for the colorblind. With the way AI is, it could present examples of things of that color. For example, a lime green could show a tennis ball, bright grass, and other such samples. Could possibly used in aiding colorblind individuals in painting or digital art (though the paintings that come from a fully colorblind artist are wild and really cool when they just pick from the grays that look good to them).

  • Let me take a fresh look at this in the morning. I’m having the itch to get up, boot up Inkscape and get something going via vector, but my sleep schedule will be completely screwed if I do that.

I’ll try to set an alarm or something, as I have pretty severe and unmedicated ADHD, but if someone could reply to this as well, as an extra reminder, I’d be grateful. I’ll probably remember when I open the app tomorrow, but better safe than sorry.

Its not often I get the itch to draw, but this really leaps out at me and I want to try. I have an idea of how I’d go about it. An eye looking slightly skyward with Earth as the pupil (if it hasn’t been done for something else yet). I don’t know if it’s within my skill, though.

Also, I believe there’s a way to translate vector to XML. I think I did it once when I was making a custom theme for MusicBee, but I’ll have to look again to be sure.
