  • Citation needed.

No citation needed. They’ll either do it one day or the software will languish behind in obscurity.

Anyway, what’s wrong with being left behind?

Nothing I guess, other than the competition getting further and further ahead and your users leaving for them.

We’re not in a race, so I don’t understand how we could get left behind.

You definitely are. JellyFin doesn’t exist in a vaccuum. You might not feel like its competition, but the jellyfin software competes with all the other media streaming software out there.

  • I always see this and I have to ask: why do you care?

Because OP is scared of losing their users because of their incorrect thinking that Plex was requiring them all to buy a remote streaming pass, so clearly OPs goal is to not lose their users, right?

OP asked, we’re answering. That’s kinda the whole point of this thing called Lemmy. We don’t care per se, we’re just telling OP our opinions and thoughts on their questions and proposed solutions.

Have to agree with the other comment that asks why do you need to use a vpn. Fax

If you don’t use a VPN you’re putting yourself at risk. There’s no real way around it with Jellyfin, as others have said.

  • Landlords and the system that treats housing as a profitable investment is the cause of high costs of living.

And who is in control of, and has been for most of the last 30 years, that system?

High cost of living cannot be solved by switching to the other current political party.

And it definitely won’t be solved by continuing to elect the same people who are making it worse. You don’t get change by doing the same thing over and over. By continually voting for them in spite of it getting continually worse, you’re telling them you’re ok with it.

  • Literally nothing changes for me, the plex server host, or any of the people streaming from my server though. Nothing at all. Nothing is ruined, nothing has started to be ruined. I don’t have to pay any more money, none of my friends and family have to pay any money.

And no, jellyfin won’t do anything like this because they don’t have control over how you use it and don’t force their cloud on you.

Until Jellyfin no longer maintain it and change to a closed source product that they want to make money from.

Plex’s own “cloud” that they “force” on you is part of what makes Plex the success that it is, and it costs them money to maintain.

  • Factor in having to instruct everyone to download the app and create an account rather than just go to a URL you can access from any device anywhere and put in your show/movie/song and in a few minutes you have it.

You don’t have to download an app for Overseerr to add things. It’s just a URL you can access from any device anywhere (assuming you’ve got a domain etc like you must for your web app) and put in your show/movie and in a few minutes you have it.

Overseerr doesn’t monitor my services either, or whatever else I want to do.

It does when you set it up.

No skin off my back, don’t use it for all I care - I was just pointing out that a fantastic ready made service already exists for that.

  • Is stealing a car punishable by a death sentence?

No, but pointing a loaded gun at a police officer while stealing a car is.

Is possessing a firearm punishable by a death sentence?

No, but pointing a loaded gun at a police officer while stealing a car is.

cops are not judge jury and executioner

They are in certain situations though, typically ones where suspected criminals - especially ones caught in the act - point guns at them. Every time they are there will be an investigation to determine if it was a lawful shooting, and if it isn’t they will face consequences (though very often those consequences will NOT be harsh enough, but that’s a different story).

There is a thing called due process.

There’s a thing called obeying the law too, and this kid didn’t follow that. “Due process”, the flavour of the month for the left, believe it or not DOES include police shooting suspects to death in certain circumstances.

There is no proof the guy even had a gun.

You haven’t seen it, though it reportedly exists. We’ll see when the final reports come out.

The cop SAID he had one, and cops are well known for carrying around throw away guns, to plant on people after they have killed them.

Ok so you’ve jumped straight to “it’s a conspiracy”. Good for you, but the rest of us like to wait for actual evidence and “due process” to play out. It is currently being investigated. If it is proven that he did have a gun, what will you say then?

  • Uhuh and why is the administration calling his deportation an error?

They’re not - they’re saying that there was an administrative error on his paperwork. ie a typo, put something in the wrong box, etc. NOT that he shouldn’t have been deported.

    I don’t know… due process?

WHAT DUE PROCESS? He was ordered by 2 separate judges to be deported. He was there at those court cases. What due process did he not get? What specifically do you think should happen if he is brought back to the US for “due process” to happen? For a third judge to rule yes he is MS13 and yes he should be deported, like the first 2?

How was his deportation an error then?

It wasn’t, as I said above.

Trumps insistence on the matter doesn’t make it true

Trump has nothing to do with it. Trump wasn’t the one that insisted he was an MS13 member. Trump wasn’t either one of the judges back in 2019 who determined that he was MS13.

Oh idk maybe because he deported in error?

    He wasn’t.
