The generational part might be true. The Castlevania games I grew up with were no “metroidvanias” so the name is doubly silly to me.

People calling search action games metroidvania is a big pet peeve of mine. No idea why it bothers me. Anyways hollow knight is my favorite, followed closely by silksong.
My accounts are not anonymous. Not even my Lemmy account is, for example my husband is also a follower of my account here because I want to interact with people I know about the things I see.
But you never know how things turn out with people. You give someone you think is a friend your name on a social platform because you think you could share a meme once in a while, and it turns out they are mentally ill and screenshot all your posts, print them out and decorate their house with them. Creepy af. You make a comment about how some product looks cool and they send it to you in the mail and expect you to be grateful for it even when you don’t want it from them and never asked for it. You make one comment that can be vaguely interpreted as being unhappy with your partner like “lol my husband bought cucumbers instead of zucchini” and he will bombard him about how he is about to get dumped for being stupid and how he will replace him. Absolutely mental. But turns out if you block these kinds of people, they just forget you exist. They don’t even bother checking if they are blocked because in their head they never did anything wrong so why would they be.
If you’re not fat you can just go through the side of the turn thingy sanifair uses for free

I guess you could also just go underneath but that seems even less dignified

1·3 months agoI thought I would use it to read Wikipedia pages but it turns out I only really read Wikipedia when I am encountering a link on my phone or PC and while I have it set up to sync links I save to the reader, since I want to read the thing right away I’m not gonna bother switching devices. Same with articles, I never find myself switching devices to read one. Maybe it would be different if I had a daily newsletter I’d read on it but I don’t use those, while I could use the ones from my library they are always lent out at the times I’d read them.
As for writing, my device is a standard 6 inch one which I’d find too small to write on, as I already own a laptop as well which is simply more ergonomic for writing. I also tried reading manga on it for which android has some great apps, but turns out I don’t enjoy manga as a medium at all.
I do love the ereader for actually reading books, it’s so comfortable but that’s the one feature I could have on any generic one. And like I said, I use it for about 2-3 hours a day and I find myself charging it once a week.

2·3 months agoI have an android based ereader and honestly I would buy a cheaper non android one if I had to replace it. I never really use any app besides the reader app and the battery only lasts a few days max. Non android ones last way longer because they have no stuff running in the background. Edit: not a kindle though I’m comparing it to a Tolino / kobo
Precisely because blocking here doesn’t do anything really. On a different platform the feature made me invisible to the person and it helped reduce their obsession with me massively. Out of sight out of mind is true for a lot of people.
Some stalkers might notice and circumvent, but most won’t because in their mind they aren’t doing anything wrong so why would they check if they got blocked. But apparently if the solution is not perfect it’s not worth doing anything to deter it seems.
A lot of people here never had a stalker and it shows.

Games@lemmy.world•Hollow Knight: Silksong Sparks Debate About Difficulty and Boss RunbacksEnglish
51·3 months agoOh wow I didn’t know the fleas moved there. Mine are still in greymore, maybe I should talk to them again sometime. I did get an achievement that I have half the fleas so I’m still missing a lot.
Ye I also don’t think it’s unreasonable, like I said I’m super rusty from not playing hk for quite a while. I do feel like a lot of people just forgot how hk played. I’m having a blast with the game so far, it’s lovely.

Games@lemmy.world•Hollow Knight: Silksong Sparks Debate About Difficulty and Boss RunbacksEnglish
299·3 months agoThe paid one time bench thing etc is for a narrative reason, the main point of the story as far as I played is about the church scamming people on every occasion. Money won’t be an issue once you reach act 2, I always have more money then I can spend even after buying out all merchants I’ve seen.
As for no benches in front of bosses it’s to discourage throwing yourself at the boss without reflecting on where to improve. The long runs I saw people complain about also were mostly like 2 screens. Worst bossrun so far was probably the judge which was only like 2 screens when you think about it.
I really enjoy the game so far, I’m about half way through act 2 I’d say so maybe it gets super hard later, but right now I think it’s very balanced between a bit challenging but not frustrating. I do feel that the game was created with players like me in mind, someone who did all pantheon, steal soul mode as well as all achievements in hk but is a little bit rusty from the long wait.

Games@lemmy.world•Gamers frustrated as Hollow Knight: Silksong crashes stores on launchEnglish
11·3 months agoNo one has to like everything. Everyone has different taste, some things align with more people, some with less. There are thousands of games / books / songs I don’t like but you don’t see me announcing that to the world whenever they are brought up.

313·3 months agoWhat drama queens. The store was down for an hour tops. After 7 years who cares about one hour longer. It’s nice to see how much demand there is for indie games, they are the last bastion of this art form.

Games@lemmy.world•CrankBoy - the original Game Boy game emulator for the Playdate console (my article)English
11·4 months agoThis article isn’t about the playdate, it’s an article about an emulation software someone wrote that runs on the playdates hardware, so you won’t get a detailed explanation about the playdate as a general device there.
The playdate is a novelty device that anyone can develop Minigames for which use the crank for their gameplay. It is several years old at this point. It’s also very expensive for what it is so if you’re not a fan of just having little novel devices with not much use there is no reason to buy one. It is indeed a tough sell for most people but they have their own demographic of enthusiasts.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What form of entertainment, movie, music, tv, video game etc that you were excited about only after it came out did you realize it was trash?
91·4 months agoStreaming for movies and TV series. The idea was great on paper but there is hardly anything worth watching and the execution is so awful. I did multiple trials for different services and they all sucked. Music streaming however is great, it’s not even 2 Eur for one month and the execution is amazing.

Mostly Snes for me. Ironically Simons quest for nes I’d actually consider a search action game, but the game was quite the outlier from the normal level based linear Castlevania games and not very popular.
