  • In school as a teenager, about 20 years ago I think. I punched a bully twice my size straight in his face (not very hard since I’m weak, but he got pretty surprised). All the others knew not to fuck with me already because I’m autistic and lack some emotional stuff which can make me seem pretty unhinged, but he was the “ring leader” and got emboldened because I was also an outsider weirdo and that made me an easy target. I didn’t get in any trouble because what would they even have told? lmao

  • Yeah, I can understand being illiterate in something with a very complex writing systems (like chinese), but english has no excuses. Every language that’s standardized will have their own problems as fluidity of language and strict systems don’t exactly work that well together, but what english has going on would be so simple to improve even with just slight changes!

Masha Bell has analyzed 7000 common words and found that about 1/2 cause spelling and pronunciation difficulties and about 1/3 cause decoding difficulties. (from wikipedia)

  • Oh killing c would be a good start, since it’s basically entirely replaceable with k and s. I wouldn’t go as far as opposing all tradition though, since there’s no reason to fiddle with traditional letter systems if they still fulfill their purpose well enough. Like sure, for example japanese could be a lot easier with eliminating kanji, but there’s significant cultural background and meaning in those that’s worth preserving - and everything can still be written phonetically when needed anyway.

English alphabet on the other hand does not have such meaningful tradition in it that couldn’t be preserved with just at least tweaking the usage a bit to be more phonetic, as now it’s already become basically half-way gibberish (fish vs. ghoti). I don’t know french well enough to shame it as harshly, but it’s writing system could definitely improve with a bit of nuking too

  • Oh definitely, these things are not opposites or anything like that, it’s more of a philosophical difference… in vibe? lmao

The way I thought about it is, that “why” is the motivation behind choosing what to do, and “result” is what those actions lead to. These are not necessary the same as you can easily make mistakes in your judgement and cause effects you didn’t think of, or even lie to yourself (and/or others) and choose to ignore what you don’t like. Whatever actually happens is still the reality of the situation, so I think that ends up being more important than the motivations behind it, as people often lie about those. And being stupid isn’t really an excuse to do shitty things, either!

Though in most cases we don’t get full story anyway, so I guess judging based on either doesn’t really matter, yeah.

  • It’s the ‘why’ that really counts with this angle.

I’d argue the results are what actually counts, even more than the why. If what you gain by ghosting is more valuable than the alternative (for example being physically safe vs. hurt feelings), it’s fine. On the other hand if what’s gained is only like two minutes of saved time…

  • They’re omnivores so good quality catfood is fine, it shouldn’t be your visitor’s full diet anyway. I bribe my neighbourhood corvids with dog kibble, since it’s what I always have in my pockets! You could try something like fruit or berries if you want to offer some variety, but the catfood and peanuts might be preferred over those. Going extra mile could be something like dried mealworms I guess, but it’s easiest to just use what you already have around.

If the visitor is not living nearby, it might come only when it happens to be close enough for other reasons, and sometimes they have seasonal things where they just go elsewhere and won’t show up for a while. Just be patient, it can take a long ass time to form trust with them, but once they learn you have food offerings regularly, they will keep visiting on their own terms. They also gossip, so you might get more visitors over time

  • Animals are one of my special interests, so I have a lot of knowledge about keeping several types of animals (especially dogs and parrots). A lot of people that have pets don’t actually seem to look that deeply into keeping them, or even consider too much before getting them, which leads to a lot of problems and rehoming situations.

The most important thing is; before you get yourself any animal, look up and read about their needs first, there’s so much that has to be considered, since they’re living feeling beings and you will be responsible for them.

    • What is the healthiest diet for them? How often do they eat? How much does feeding them cost? Where can you get their foods?
    • How will you deal with their shitting/peeing, or the mess they’ll make? How will you have to protect your house so they don’t kill themselves or destroy everything?
    • Do they need special lighting? Certain temperatures or humidity? What sort of cage/toys/other things they need, and how much will those cost?
    • How much space do they need? (Never go with the recommended minimum!) Do they need to go outside every day, and how many times?
    • Do you need to get multiple for them to have company and be healthy? Can you keep multiple of them or will they kill each other?
    • What things should you teach them?
    • How much time do you have to spend with them everyday? What will you do if you have to travel?
    • How long lifespan do they have? What will happen to them if you die first?
    • How will you take care of their fur/nails/beak/etc.?
    • Do they need a specialist vet and are there any close by? Do you have enough funds to pay for their typical vet care and sudden emergencies?
    • Where can you get this animal? Are they legal where you live? Are there any rescues for them, do you have to find a reputable breeder? How can you avoid getting scammed or supporting unethical practices? (Never buy anything wild-caught!)
    • Etc…

a lot of gamers categorically refuse to buy a game in early access and wait for the 1.0 release for the “full experience”

I refuse to buy early access games just because if they sell enough, the devs won’t complete the game and it’ll be stuck in the “10 years in development” -phase
