I figured. Works for me on desktop linux too.
AV1 support is just one more of those things Apple has been dense about.
Interesting. That’s what I was afraid of.
I guess I need to make a Lemmy.world support thread for that?
Probably because it’s AV1.
I just noticed it doesn’t work on my IPhone (16) not even through the link: https://files.catbox.moe/foodzx.webm
But the VP9 one does. That’s… Disappointing.
Yeah, Book 3 of The Legend of Korra. That whole season is solid gold.
A longer clip with sound: https://files.catbox.moe/8z5ggp.webm
Github issue then? M, okay.
That’s a great thing about Lemmy I suppose, there’s somewhere to go to discuss features that isn’t a black hole, lol.
Still, maybe Lemmy.world (and other instances?) should allow uploading of videos that are about the size of images. Maybe a limit of 768KB?
You mean you can’t see the embed in the above comment? What client?
Test:
EDIT: Seems to work! Didn’t realize I could embed videos like that, there’s no shortcut in the browser UI.
Yeah, I guess a link is fine, but can I embed them somehow?
EDIT: Embedding seems to work.
For reference, here’s an example
A quick VP9 webm video, 1920x1080, 2.8MB: https://files.catbox.moe/l5yvor.webm
A smaller webm, 1920x1080, 1.1 MB and still looks fine: https://files.catbox.moe/foodzx.webm
The GIF. 400x225, 12FPS, 5.6MB, optimized as best I can yet looks like a can of spam. But it’s what Lemmy would take:
Heh, well, what happens to Republicans who speak out against the idea?
Rawstory is pretty bad too. Blogs/tweets that float up can be even worse.
I get it, people have their regular sources and well we should do something about it and post better ones if we don’t like it, but still.
You’re being extreme. I suppose headline is misleading because the bill would have passed without Democrat support, and it doesn’t directly restrict the voting of married women. But four house democrats did vote for this (presumably because they’re in swing districts or border towns?), and the premise (requiring proof of citizenship is soft voter supression) appears to be true.
But you are touching on something I feel. Lots of really sensationalist sources float to the top of Lemmy’s front page.
Speaking as someone in central texas, living not that far from the outbreak… It’s bad, but not that big a deal.
Most everyone outside super-religious communes has the vaccine, whether they like it or not. Basically everyone who’s died or been infected so far was unvaccinated. See figure 4:
https://www.dshs.texas.gov/news-alerts/measles-outbreak-2025
The message is for the next pandemic we aren’t vaccinated for. The meme that vaccines are a ‘choice’ with tradeoffs one should carefully consider (instead of something you’d be an idiot not to get) are going to obliterate us next time. That message is coming from the top, not from where this funding was cut.
The thing is many people consider Trump to be the systemic change they’ve been so desperately seeking.
It’s almost understandable too, given how much has been frozen/worsening for so long.
I don’t have an alternate proposal. It may actually be the case that social media will eventually force every serious political movement to pivot towards populism and create its own truth in order to be competitive, but then who would make the policy decisions in a world of meme warfare?
Simple, obliterate engagement obsessed social media. Or rein it in.
Failing that (and it already failed in the US, seeing how we basically crowned Big Tech), well… Two populist parties is better than a monoparty. And maybe a party can get someone “cynical” who will say absolutely anything but, behind closed doors, doesn’t drink so much of their own Kool Aid.
You’re just a totally different base than Fox’s. They’re telling viewers want they want to hear, which has always been this, for decades. They have to, as otherwise they’d switch channels and lose engagement blaming non-liberals for anything.
Sounds like a great place for a giga protest.
And people criticized this as paranoid and wrong when Biden did it…
Trump just blurts it out. No eyebrows even raised. Again, just imagine the outrage of Biden sat in that chair and said the same things.
