The point isn’t whether it’s needed or not. It’s not about space or features. The point is that a major player made a design decision and bucked the system. And while there may still be some phones with audio jacks, the majority of mainstream phones don’t. That major player is still successful, and other companies followed suit.
Can we agree this is what should happen to HDMI. No?

There would be uproar, but like the audio jack on phones people would come around. All it would take is one big enough company to pull it off, and the rest would follow.

This wouldn’t work to scale. If Valve paid to license the spec for the Linux kernel, it would have to pay for every person who downloaded the driver, which is far more than the amount of people who buy the Steam Cube.
Unless of course you’re suggesting that the kernel driver for the new spec become closed source.

Seizing land from white farmers in a continent where said white people are not indigenous is such a white thing to say.
Power to the South African government! 👊
~Feel free to use that fist however you see fit.~

Not always. Well, maybe it depends on the jurisdiction. But, for example, stopping and searching cars has a lot more leeway than searching a house. Maybe searching people in public is the same? I remember New York has/had that stop and frisk law.
Of course I am not arguing against you, as I agree that it’s all bullshit and unconstitutional. This case especially. People have gotten off for much less technicalities, and yet Mangione is still on trial. He will never see a fair trial.

Assistant manager. Probably also a privately-owned store.
Additionally, he was taunting the agents (i.e. flipping the bird, etc). Let’s hope his bosses see eye to eye on this, and he doesn’t lose his job.
And if he does, we can start a GoFundMe (or whatever better alternative there is) for this hero.

It’s simple really. White folk, especially old white men, have done so many bad things for so long that there really isn’t much legitimate good things that they can take credit for anymore. Add to that a systemic lack of accountability, and you get a lot of fragile egos that don’t understand that part of life is a) apologizing, and 2) sitting with and thinking about the things that make you uncomfortable. So instead, they prop themselves up by bringing other people down, and removing the legitimate accomplishments of the people that in effect demonstrate how inferior these white old men genuinely are.
~i.e. they lack emotional maturity, emotional intelligence, and empathy.~

It’s not about changing the Republican vote. They’re worried that Democrats will start coming out and voting in off-cycle elections (e.g. midterms), which is not something a lot of Democrats do regularly.
If Democrats voted as often as Republicans, we’d have a whole different political landscape right now. That’s why they’re worried.

They really should’ve focused on teaching Popper’s Paradox instead.

“Freedom of speech” is bullshit. She got to say what she wanted, and now she gets to get the grade she deserves.
This was the biggest failing of (at least) my generation (gen-x): we were only taught that we had a freedom of speech, but never taught that there still could be consequences.
The professor has the right to express their side, and unfortunately will probably suffer the consequences, thud negating the bad grade. This will only serve to embolden said psychology student to keep doing what they did, and other professors will allow it to happen, lest they suffer the same consequences themselves.
I used to say that the system is broken, but now I realize it’s merely working as intended.

It very much is a threat to all of us.

Oh you sweet summer child.
Even when Trump dies, there is somebody much worse waiting in the wings. 2028 is not going to be a salvation.

Yeah, I’m not sure why you’re being downvoted. Everything you said is true, and respectful.
I think open-ended can be okay, so long as there are milestones we can achieve (i.e. try different things out to see what works and what doesn’t). Something as big as the environment, health/safety, and not completely alienating industries (as much as I hate to say it, we do need them and their resources to an extent), is not something that is going to be easily solved without compromise.
I expect that my last two points will not win me any popularity contests, but they cannot be ignored.

Gotta start somewhere, and gotta keep at it. It’s difficult at times, and there certainly are people who just want to see the world burn. But fuck them. They aren’t worth our time and energy.

Yes, but there are a few of us out there who want to see good things happen for all people.

For what it’s worth, it’s not anti anything to point out flaws. If anything, it’s being pro because it opens the door for a conversation; which, if both sides come at it in good faith, can lead to change.
I just wrapped my kids’ Christmas presents and put them under the tree. I really took my time this year too.
