Yeah that as well. Same with my browser. I tend to configure my browser such that it clears all open tabs when closed.

I always power off any computers that I won’t be using anymore for the day. Be it desktops or laptops. My parents always taught me that leaving devices on (or even connected to power) when not using them was a fire hazard. Although I think it’s a bit overblown, powering off anything I don’t need has stuck as a habit and I see no reason to change it. With SSDs the startup time had become fast enough to make me stop caring. The wear and tear on the SSD is also not that big of an issue. My laptop and its SSD are from 2014 and have been subjected to the worst of my programming abilities, yet they still function fine.

No it’s more just browsing social media liek Lemmy or doen specific Reddit communities that aren’t here. As a kid I used to be able to read books easily, but it’s become way harder with all this “easy” dopamine around

Recently I was sitting in a bus for hours. My Steam Deck was already empty. Bravely, I decided to finally continue reading Dune. I was enjoying the experience (after the initial confusion from forgetting who everyone was). But somehow, despite being interested in what was written, my brain constantly wanted more stimulation. To grab the slate of glass that provides endless dopamine. To click buttons. To have a constant stream of simple information.

I’m kinda scared tbh. This shit is an addiction, and I’m addicted. But most other people around me seem just as much or even more addicted. What happened to just being able to do something for an hour without feeling the need for different stimulation. We’re all poisoning or minds until we’re incapable of paying attention for more than a few seconds.

I have the same fears about them and would personally never buy them, but the people I spoke who have one all said that they had no issues and loved the screen size. Personally I wouldn’t feel comfortable using it knowing that a single grain of sand in the wrong place can fuck it all up. But apparently it’s not too bad, at least anecdotally.

Hmmm yeah that sucks. In that regard we aro/aces have it easier I guess. For most people romance and sexuality seem to be tied. I can imagine that it often can lead to incompatibility

I’m aro/ace and sometimes I feel like this. But I guess what I want is just another person to have a connection with. If more people were aro/ace my problem would also be solved. Still I do sometimes wonder what I’m missing out on. Everyone seems to like it, yet I find it yucky. There’s plenty of other things in life to enjoy though, so no biggie

We’d probably not get along very well. 19 y/o me though he saw the world “logically” and that everyone else was wrong. He saw emotions as a weakness, and interpreted the world as black and white. To him everything seemed clear cut and simple, and everyone who didn’t agree was an idiot.

Seeing nuance and accepting emotions as a valid argument to anything are not things he’d accept. Accepting that people who think differently are not completely stupid might not go well with him. And, without getting into details, I don’t think he’d agree with the current situation. He wouldn’t be surprised to see me work as a programmer, but his black and white thinking wouldn’t gel very well with the reality that most companies aren’t exactly “good” causes.
