If this is something you’re actually going through, OP, you should know that (1) the trimesters can all feel dramatically different, sometimes even turning on a dime, and (2) it’s definitely always ok to call up your OB anytime if something feels wrong.

Technology@lemmy.world•It's the Christmas light video again - 2025 editionEnglish
13·4 days agoAlec has been on a multi-year quest to get an incandescent color profile from LED Christmas lights. I haven’t watched this episode, but he usually does a pretty good job of recapping at the start of every episode.
It’s always super entertaining, in my opinion.
EDIT: I watched it. It is indeed super entertaining! This time, the recap comes after his special Christmas light repacking tip, so it’s a couple of minutes in.

9·8 days agoWalking into a meeting at Kohler and keeping a straight face after saying the words “toilet camera”–and then maintaining that straight face throughout the product’s discussion, greenlighting, development, manufacture, and sale–deserves an Oscar.

Yeah, they should be “fretting.”

23·10 days agoYes, yes, yes! But also, it’s particularly notable that she’s white and blond with no accent because they claim to their supporters to be protecting those specific people from “illegals.” Pointing out that they’re not only doing something awful but also defying their own stated principles is always a good thing to do.

9·10 days agoThe crazy thing is that their margins are super low, and the subscription fee isn’t super onerous (as you mentioned, there are multiple ways to make it back–for instance, we’ve never yet had a year where we didn’t get our Executive membership totally paid for by the rebate check), and yet they still pay substantially more than other employers in pretty much every area, and they’re still one of the most profitable retailers in the country.
Basically, I think every other big box store’s executive team should be fired whenever they say they “can’t” do something like pay their workers or offer benefits or whatever. Obviously you can, because Costco does.

1·10 days agoSomebody once asked him if that was rehearsed, and he said something along the lines of “actually it takes effort for me to not talk like that the rest of the time.” Which, for just about anyone else, I would assume was a lie, but Brennan? Not terribly unbelievable, tbh.

Games@lemmy.world•This Minecraft map that recreates [Kowloon Walled City], one of history's most notorious slums made me reconsider what's important in 3D level designEnglish
2·11 days agoIt’s a very good summary of the article. The things the author reconsidered were pretty nuanced, and trying to describe them in a headline without making the headline even longer than it is.
Would you have liked this better?
“This Minecraft map that recreates Kowloon Walled City, one of history’s most notorious slums, made me realize that 3D level design isn’t just about the complexity or the environmental challenge, but about the internal lives of the people who live there and the way that the game implies a greater reality that exists beyond the confines of the camera’s field of view”
Because that’s too long to fit in a tweet.

5·11 days agoJust realized, I had forgotten entirely about appliances and electronics and clothes and stuff. That stuff is almost always 10-ish percent cheaper as a baseline. So if you need to buy that sort of thing somewhat often, it might be a better deal thank I let on.

politics @lemmy.world•MAGA fans wig out as Costco sues Trump: 'About to be the new Bud Light'
13·11 days agoIf you’re buying for enough people that it makes sense, the Executive membership can easily pay for itself. Generally speaking Costco is slightly cheaper, but the big thing is that you’ll typically get the more premium brand in a bulk container for the more basic price.
But if you aren’t going to be buying for a family of six every other week, it might not be super worth it to you. It’s a good store, but it’s not some amazing mecca or anything.

Games@lemmy.world•This Minecraft map that recreates [Kowloon Walled City], one of history's most notorious slums made me reconsider what's important in 3D level designEnglish
51·11 days agoI read the article. It appears to deliver on the promise of the headline pretty completely. What is promised is a little bit too nuanced and complex to be neatly encapsulated in the headline any other way. The headline also isn’t sensationalized or misrepresentative of the content. And, honestly, the reason I think most people are clicking is for the Kowloon part, not the level design part. Are you just upset because it sounds a little bit like a LinkedIn status in its construction?

Some humans write like this too. That’s kind of how it learned it.
