Modern FED and DOT General standard specifications state that the PW must be changed to prevent exactly this. Good luck finding one that’s not locked out.

Having worked with people before, I’m sure the chances of finding one still with the default password is quite high

And you’re supposed to get a yearly physical, not break the speed limit, have unique passwords, file your taxes on time, regularly test your smoke alarms, perform preventative maintenance on your home and vehicle, get 8 hours of sleep a day, drink several glasses of water, quit putting off seeing a doc for that weird pain in your chest that is ‘just a thing sometimes’, be frugal to be able to retire comfortably at a reasonable age…

I’m not sure I want to spend f-150 money to hack a sign (or have an f-150), but I do appreciate the effort

A white F-150 work truck with hiviz stickers or magnets is a master key to places you didn’t know cars were allowed. Hop out with a vest, a hard hat, a clipboard and a face that says “I don’t want to be here” and police will ask if they’re allowed to be where you are.

Having done it myself, exactly this. Console on the back is often unlocked as well. Flip open the box and set your message. Side note, don’t put one of these in front of a frat house and expect it to not say stupid shit

Or there isn’t even a password at all, and security is entirely provided by a locked cover over the control panel … usually a lock with a standard, easy-to-buy-online key.

You probably don’t even have to go that far. You can rake-pick most consumer locks in a handful of seconds and with zero talent required. I theoretically know how to pick locks in the traditional “little click from pin 1, pin 2 is set, pin 3 is loose” kind of way but in reality I never have to on any consumer grade lock. Just tension it with a little screwdriver and fuck it at random with a bent paperclip and you’ll probably get it open. I’d be immensely surprised if these things are secured with anything more than a dinky 4 or if we’re feeling especially generous 5 pin through-hole cam lock.

How do you interact with it? I know nothing about these systems

Edit: control panel on the back
